How to Apply a Vinyl Die Cut Sticker/ Decal

Your stickers are gold – don’t blow it and apply them badly!

Follow our Step by Step Guide to applying your stickers the right way!

1. Place your sticker

Pick a location for your sticker. If you are really keen you can tape it in place so it doesn’t move, with a line of tape over the centre of the sticker, like a hinge.

2. Peel the sticker from the backing paper. Stop 1/3 to 1/2 way.

Peel the backing paper off the sticker carefully. Fold it over itself, and watch for parts that may stick. If they do, just push the app tape back down and retry. Stop halfway.

3. Cut away the backing paper.

Cut away the backing paper you have exposed.

4. Apply the first half of your sticker.

Working from the centre out, using a credit card or a hard rub with your hands, push the sticker into position and rub it hard!

5. Remove the other half of your backing tape.

Remove the other half of the backing paper by folding the unattached part and peeling it off carefully, exposing the sticker surface.

6. Apply the Second Half

Using the same method as before, work the second half of the sticker down and into position. Hold the sticker tightish and work from the centre to the end.

7. Rub your sticker like you love it!

Rub it hard to make sure it will stick properly!

8. Remove the application paper.

Starting at the top corner of your sticker, carefully peel back the application tape. Fold it over on itself, and slowly pull on a 45 degree angle to the sticker.

9. Keep pulling!

Slowly keep pulling the app tape until it is all removed. Watch for parts of your sticker lifting – if it does then re-rub that part of the sticker with the app tape and try again slowly. If it isn’t working, try different angles. DO IT SLOWLY!

10. Bask in your glory!

Stickers are an amazing cost effective way to market your business, event, blog, or to get a point across. One sticker in one great location can be seen by thousands of people – and the best thing is you aren’t being charged by how many people look at it or people clicking on it! We have put together 5 important points to think of when designing your sticker

1. What are you trying to do with your promotional sticker?

Content wise, you need to work out your priorities – are you trying to promote your brand, make band stickers, drive traffic to a website, or make a sale? Make sure your content is relevant to what you are trying to do.

2. Economy vs quality

Are you going to hand these out to everyone you see or are you going to hand these out to selected influential people? If you are going to give them to everyone with a pulse, then presized stickers might be the best option – if you want these to end up on peoples apple macbooks in Ponsonby then a quality custom designed Vinyl Die Cut Sticker/Decal is probably a good choice.

3 . Spend Time (or a little money) Making them look good.

People are aware of good design. Here at customstickers.co.nz, we see a lot of great designs, and a lot of average ones as well. Your sticker doesn’t have to look like it should be in a High Fashion Magazine, but it should at the least be aesthetically pleasing and achieve its goals – IE BE EASY TO READ AND RECOGNISE! If you suck at design, hire a designer! It represents your company or what you are trying to portray, so you should probably make a decent effort. Clip Art from MS word probably won’t cut it…There are plenty of custom shapes, options and styles to make your stickers stand out!

4. Stick Them Everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE

Our stickers and decals are designed to be stuck. So do it! Take a stack of them out with you when you walk the dog and let loose. If you have a laptop, put on one the lid, so that when you are in Ponsonby writing your novel people will see it. If you have a cellphone, stick one on there. If you are making important calls about shares and the DPX index on Lambton Quay people will see them. Lampposts, Traffic lights mailboxes – wherever you have permission* or don’t think that there will be a problem sticking them (Give the neighbours dog or the police car a miss, although John Keys Limo might be a goer) then put them up. Use your common sense here – you are all smart enough to read 4 paragraphs of this so you should be smart enough to choose where is OK to put up a sticker.

5. Everyone has seen a bumper sticker

And there is a reason for that. They work. Bumper stickers have launched brands and turned large brands into corporate monsters, as part of an all round marketing strategy. Stickers are something that people can hold and use, google ads tend to be a bit harder to stick on your mates back when he’s not looking, or on your nana’s car. Clear, concise information, as well as simple design and instruction means a win. And for a great price. No need to spend 10k on that NZ Herald ad when you can spend 1k on 1000 custom bumper stickers and paint the town with them. In short, stickers have and always will be a cost effective means to getting your information around. A while ago I read something along the lines of “a stickers life is measured in years, not days.” It struck a chord with us here – why advertise for the short term when you can invest in the future? Of course, we are a little biased, but who can blame us. Stickers are great.

Agatha Paris (NZ) Windows

Mitchell from Agatha Paris NZ in Vulcan Lane came to us looking for Custom Promotional Window Stickers that they could apply themselves. We made them some Vinyl Die Cut Stickers to their specs and let them loose. There is a large red SALE sticker running vertically down a glass door, and a custom SALE sticker with little dogs around it on the main window. These guys ordered the stickers and easily installed them on their own – which we reckon is a a great way to save on costs.

Jasons Travel Brochure Stickers

We were approached by Jason Travel Guides to make them some stickers to go on all of their travel brochure holders around New Zealand to promote their new iphone app. As you can see, it rolled out with a QR code and a nice full color print. There were a few criteria – with the main one being that these needed to be removable. We used Ultra Removable vinyl, and used a screen/offset print process for these.

We made about 3000, so chances are if you have been in a motel or hotel around the country you would have seen our handywork!

Print Mighty T Shirts Presized

Matt from Print Mighty came to us looking for a stack of stickers to help market his custom T Shirt business at Parachute festival, and from his base just out of Wellington. They make one off t shirts, as well as helping both startup and estabished brands setup an online shop to sell their wares.

They decided that the best option was to use the presized stickers due to the fact there was no setup fee and the economy of scale.

Campbell from moneyshot-tshirts.com came to us looking for a heap of quality stickers with a tight time frame. Actually, he was looking for 20,000 in 5 working days. So more than a heap really.

We moved things around, and worked a bit of OT and pumped these babies out before the deadline of the now dead Auckland Big Day Out.

For that amount of stickers, the most cost effective and fastest way was Screenprinted Stickers.

We made a custom die so we could custom cut the 2 colored UZI sticker to a rounded rectangle shape, and put peel tabs on the web address stickers to help peel them off. These stickers are all getting given away – so if you are lucky you might end up with a few around your ways.

The crew from Got Pop Apparel came to us looking for a some Vinyl Die Cuts and some digital print stickers. They decided on the presized stickers due to the bang for the buck – which they decided was their motivating factor. Their goal was to get the most stickers out and about!

They also rolled out some Vinyl Die Cuts for snow and skateboards, and we busted out some Chrome Vinyl to make them really pop. (Bad pun I know..)
